Georgina was a much-loved mother, grandmother and sister. She was born in Kettering on 9th November 1946 and passed away suddenly on 3rd February 2025 in London following an asthma attack and cardiac arrest.
Before coming into contact with the Brahma Kumaris, Georgina was a successful businesswoman, who ran her own lighting company, making and selling lampshades. She was an expert at making shades and later used her talent to make many of the lampshades for the Global Retreat Centre when it first opened.
Georgina took the raja yoga course in 1981 and spent the next few years living in Leicester and other towns until eventually moving to London. Initially, she worked in Wormwood Scrubs prison in the education department, which gave her a deep understanding of both the needs of prisoners and the staff. She then spent several years providing training and support for volunteers working in a hospice.
Georgina is a great soul with a deep love for God and totally dedicated to His service, despite having health issues for many years. She was a trustworthy friend, a caring neighbour in the housing scheme where she lived and a spiritual teacher/mother and sister to many Brahma Kumaris (BK) students. She was a greatly loved pillar of the London BK class, not only through reading the Murli (daily spiritual teachings) and sharing spiritual stories of her life as a BK but as a role model of a constant server and compassionate human being.
Georgina loved people as well as animals and nature. She always had a beautiful smile which melted the hearts of those who met her. Many shared their experience of her being patient and calm, as well as humble, forgiving and understanding. She accepted others without judgement, always appreciative and supportive. People enjoyed her fun-loving and cheerful nature. She was kind, insightful and wise in her approach to life with a great generosity of spirit. She changed people’s lives and was very good at spiritually sustaining those who she was in contact with over many years.
Georgina focused much of her time and attention on three areas of service, namely: Interfaith.
Georgina was the Interfaith Co-ordinator for the Brahma Kumaris UK for over 25 years. developing links in the local and national interfaith community. She was a founding member of the Brent Interfaith Community where she played “a significant role”. She also played an important part in Harrow Interfaith where she was much loved and respected - “through her wisdom and kindness, she brought people together, fostering understanding and unity among different faiths.”
Georgina was also on the committee of the Religions of Peace Women’s Interfaith Network UK, on the executive committee of the World Congress of Faiths and the BK Lead on the City of Sanctuary Award (faith stream) working with refugees and refugee organisations in the UK.
One of the highlights of her interfaith work was attending a conference in Rome in 2024, where she was one of a handful of UK delegates to meet Pope Francis.
Raja Yoga Meditation Course
As part of the Raja Yoga teaching team, Georgina led many online classes and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with students and answering their questions.
Prison Service
Georgina had a long association with the Prison Service. In the past, she helped coordinate and support Brahma Kumaris volunteers, who taught meditation in a number of different prisons across the country. She also taught prisoners through the correspondence course and took a lead role in organising a number of away days and retreats for senior prison staff at Global Cooperation House and at the Global Retreat Centre. Recently she had been negotiating with the management of a London prison to introduce a daily meditation slot on the local prison radio.
There is one word that best sums up Georgina’s unlimited service to the BK family and the world and that is ‘angel’. She is one of God’s very special angels and she will continue to play an important role in helping to transform the world.
Georgina will continue to inspire us and we send her much love and many good wishes as she moves on to the next part of her journey.
With love,
In Baba’s remembrance,
Sister Jayanti
A memorial gathering will be organised in a few weeks to honour Georgina’s life.
